Year One is an exciting year for children, full of fun and learning. The children continue to develop skills that will support them through their life such as: being independent; how to be a good citizen and friend; as well as a jam packed curriculum.

At the beginning of the year our focus is on a smooth transition from the Early Years into Key Stage 1. Our curriculum builds on the experiences that the children have had in Reception and develops a more formal style of learning alongside the continuous provision the children are used to. Our topics are based on our environment and the world around us with thought given to the children’s interests that may arise throughout the year.

The phonics screening test is a focus in Year One. The children will prepare for this throughout the year by playing games, completing reading and writing activities, group activities, homework and computer games, which they thoroughly enjoy.
