Writing

English and the teaching of English is the foundation of our curriculum. Our main aim is to ensure every single child becomes primary literate and progresses to the best of their ability in the areas of reading, writing, speaking and listening by the time they leave our school in Year 6. English is the cornerstone of the entire curriculum. It is embedded within all our lessons and we will strive for a high level of English for all.

In Churchdown Parton Manor we aim to create a culture for writing and to provide extensive opportunities to write. The children build on their skills and knowledge to journey from reader to writer. Having an understanding of the Structure, Purpose, Audience, Composition and Effect are key elements to support the children’s journey from reader to writer.

Through using high-quality texts and immersing children in vocabulary rich learning environments, the children will be exposed to exciting opportunities for writing across the curriculum. This will enable them to become primary literate and to develop purposeful writing skills as well as fostering a love for writing for pleasure.
